Questions and flashcards, generated
Bottsy produces questions and flashcards from each source. Stems are specific, distractors are plausible, and explanations address the underlying concept rather than just restating the answer.
Spaced repetition scheduling
SM-2 scheduling adapts to your review history. Due cards are served automatically each session. The algorithm is standard and well-understood, with no proprietary black box.
Voice-mode study
Say your answer aloud; Whisper transcribes it and AI grades the response. Say “rate good” or “rate again” to advance the card. Questions can also be read back via TTS.

Add a PDF, EPUB, web page, YouTube link, or audio file. Bottsy extracts and chunks the content into study-sized pieces.
Generate
Click Generate. Bottsy produces questions, flashcards, and a detailed written summary for each source, using your own Anthropic API key.
Study
Hit Study Now. Due cards are served by the SM-2 scheduler. Answer by typing or speaking. Rate each card and the algorithm schedules the next review.
Refine
Run the quality audit to catch weak questions. Fill knowledge gaps detected by the AI. Flag and correct anything that doesn’t meet your standard.
Who it’s for
Question banks and flashcard decks work. Active recall and spaced repetition have a stronger evidence base than almost any other study method. The limitation has always been the same: existing banks only cover what someone else decided to build, for the audiences they chose to target.
Bottsy was made by a UK doctor who found those tools genuinely useful through medical school and postgraduate training, but wanted the same style of learning for everything outside of them. The specialty interest that came from a paper. The guideline worth understanding from first principles. The research area worth getting into properly. Once the exam years end, that pipeline stops, and there is nothing equivalent for the rest of a career.

Local-first, by design
Your study data does not leave your machine.
What this means in practice
- All data is stored in a SQLite database on your own computer
- No accounts, no registration, no cloud sync
- You bring your own API keys (Anthropic, OpenAI, ElevenLabs). Bottsy holds nothing in a centralised store
- No telemetry, no analytics, no tracking of any kind
- Uninstalling the app removes everything
